Photographing through the grapevine- another Tendril- part 5

Published by

on

On June 8, 2025, I went for a stroll at the UC Davis Arboretum and saw a number of grape vines extending their tendrils left and right.

I took the FEATURED IMAGE (f/8, 1/250s, ISO 1250) with a macro lens (105 macro from Nikon). The image was illuminated with natural light. It portrays the looping tendrils of a grape vine making a lace and resting on a leaf.

A short spring project

I have written several posts on the benefits of working in projects and series.

The Looping Vine Tendril is my first botanical project of 2025, and so far it’s the only one.

Who knew that grape vines could act as cowboys and throw their tendrils like lassos?

I saw Steve’s lasso once he mentioned it, but my first thought was “Spaghetti!” Instead of throwing pasta against the wall to see if it sticks, the plant seems to have thrown its tendril against the leaf. Apparently it stuck.

I love black and white for these images. And the tendrils look like abstract markings one might make in a painting.

Aren’t they strange though? How come plants do this stuff!
