Many of my blog followers may not know that I have a secret life as a still life photographer. I haven’t shown any of my stills here before because I try to keep this blog mostly nature-oriented. This year, I donated a print to the KVIE auction, which will happen in the fall. The auction event takes place October 1 – 3 on TV (KVIE-HD), but it is already available for preview online. If you are Sacramento “local”, you can visit the PBS KVIE Studios art in person to see the approximately 260 pieces that will be auctioned. Mine, entitled Crabapple Harvest, is in BREAK 39 – Still Life, and will be auctioned on 10/3/2021 at 4:00PM.
The PBS KVIE Art Auction is an annual broadcast and livestream event celebrating the artwork of Northern California artists and California Masters. All proceeds benefit the PBS station, KVIE.
My print of the photograph above was beautifully executed by the Blue Wing Gallery. It is 33’x40’ printed on fine art paper and matted.
Definitely a beautiful image!

Very nice still life, Alessandra. How did your image fare?

It did ok, the winning bid was 400 U$. Paintings generally do better than this.

Well, you topped the retail value so that’s good. I hope you do as well or better this year. As someone who has participated in juried exhibitions there is no accounting for people’s taste. 🙂 I can tell you honestly that I found your photograph more appealing than a lot of the other entries. Many folks don’t consider photography “real” art so painting gets greater respect. A photographer friend of mine was visiting an art museum and when asking about where the photography section was, the docent said, “Sir, this is an art museum. There is no photography”. 🙂

“Sir, this is an art museum. There is no photography”.
Seriously? I don’t know if I laugh or cry!

Narrow-minded attitudes and the need for superiority. I have to laugh while shaking my head.
