Today’s short post features one more picture of beautiful Donner Lake in California’s Sierra Nevada.
From Donner Summit, the view of the lake is especially rewarding. For me, it was even more so because I didn’t hike there (although there is a well-established trail). I climbed.
Regardless of how one gets there, however, the view is stunning. The afternoon is particularly beautiful, when the lake is illuminated by the sun. On May 25, 2026, a few clouds added just the right touch to the composition.
Although the FEATURED PHOTO is what I would call a postcard image, with little artistic value, if any (and although I know that anyone with a cell phone could probably replicate it), I still think it stands out as a wonderful memory of a great day outdoors, doing an activity I love.
If you are a photographer, do you mind answering: do you sometimes take postcard pictures and secretly treasure them?
Below is a photo of me dealing the rope after the climb.
