Each year, a fresh layer of leaves settles on the ground, nurturing the earth and making room for a springtime revival. Life grows from the remnants of the past, finding strength in the ongoing cycle of renewal. As humans, we hold a special ability to observe this process. Perhaps that’s our purpose: to witness and understand the quiet sadness of all living beings as they depart from this magnificent world.
Thanksgiving marks the farewell to autumn in much of California. To honor the season, I present two images.
The image below is an off camera composite based on three photographs. I took the photos while on a walk at the UC Davis Arboretum in the fall of 2022. I stacked the images in photoshop, in layers, and played with their opacities until I achieved the desired effect (click on the image to enlarge).

The featured image (repeated below) was taken on a walk from the Spooner Lake to the Marlette Lake. The path is in Nevada right at the border with California. If you want to learn more about it and consider it for the next fall, here is a link to my previous post about the hike (click on the image to enlarge).

Wishing my followers who celebrate it, a Thanksgiving filled with food, joy and love.
In this holiday season, don’t forget to hug those you love and to tell them how important they are to you. Resolve issues, forgive, make peace. Life is short, it goes fast, and no one is guaranteed tomorrow.
