This week’s photo captures an angelic sight from one of my walks at Rush Ranch Open Space in Fairfield. It’s a place not far from my home where clouds form. If you look at California’s topographical map, you’ll see that the Central Valley ends to the west at the Coastal Range, and Fairfield, where Rush Ranch is located, is on the east side of that range, approximately halfway between Los Angeles to the south and Oregon to the north. There is a convenient gap in the mountains near Fairfield, and Highway I-80 smoothly passes through it. However, mountains tend to trap moisture, resulting in more fog, haze, and clouds near and beyond them than in the valley.
The angel appeared while I was walking on one of the trails and quickly disappeared. It made me think of all the people in my life who have appeared and then vanished. There’s no use trying to hold onto these fleeting forms. Everything changes so quickly.
Next week, I’ll be in Reno for an international congress that I am helping to organize. That will be an interesting change of scene, as our area braces for temperatures in the 100’s. I’m excited to see some of my peers I haven’t seen in over a decade (I don’t get many chances to attend conferences in my job).
Wishing a great week to all my followers beginning next Sunday!
