  • Happy Sunflower in high key: Two Challenges of High Key Photography and How to Overcome Them

High key photography presents many challenges. In this post I discuss two, and how I overcome them.

  • Natural Patterns in color: The Captivating Madrone Bark

The bark of the Madrone as an abstract piece of wall art.

  • Clouds, part I: When they interfere with the landscape in photography

Whenever clouds grace the sky, local photography groups and friends’ feeds overflow with Facebook posts capturing the moment. Yet, more often than not, the clouds interfere with rather than complement the landscape. I discuss the issue and give examples form my photography.

During a visit to Balboa Park, we stumbled upon a glassblowing demonstration and a shop selling blown glass items. The curved lamps caught my eye for their simplicity and familiarity. Using my Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm, a kit lens, I snapped three quick photos within five minutes.

  • Connections, a joint project on assembling diptychs

A photography focus group I am part of has decided to apply for a group show, highlighting connections in diptychs, and I discuss some of my ideas for this project.
